The theme of Friday’s conference, “Education and Development with the Method of Instrumental Awareness in Ostrava-Poruba, was the implementation of MIA in elementary and preschool schools, particularly in the Moravian-Silesian Region. Experiences were also shared from the university level: at Silesian University in Opava, MIA is included as an elective course, and starting this year, students there are also being trained as MIA lecturers.  

Contributions from school principals and teachers demonstrated how crucial MIA can be for students to acquire the basic skills needed for their future lives and what impact MIA has on the overall school culture when it is systematically integrated into education. Schools that mainly educate socially disadvantaged students or children with various types of disabilities, MIA has proven to be an effective tool for launching the journey of education and development. It is clear that support from school management, inspiration from other schools that have been working with MIA for a long time, and the systematic sharing of experiences among educators from individual schools (MIA units, MIA groups) play a key role. 

Yechiel Bar-Chaim also praised the harmonizing, calming, and clearly therapeutic effects of MIA in his presentation; however, he focused on the potential of MIA to stimulate intellectual curiosity, strengthen moral values, and develop critical thinking. The conference was held in the beautiful premises of the “Všichni spolu” Community Center and was organized by ATC for Education and Development in cooperation with the Poruba municipal district.
